Killzone 2

We all know about the current economic crisis occurring all over the world. And you might be thinking to yourself, sixty dollars is a lot of money to spend. Is Killzone 2 a giant waste of your hard earned cash, or is it the giant blockbuster all the hype led you to believe? Well, I am here to help answer that!

Single player- You play as Sergeant Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko, who is part of the ISA special forces alpha team. Sev, (your nickname throughout the whole game) is a quiet and withdrawn soldier paired with Corporal Dante Garza, Sergeant Rico Valasquez, and Corporal Shawn Natko. Your mission through the whole game is to push your way through the forces of the Helghast and capture scolar Visari. This is where it gets interesting. The game uses amazing and realistic graphics with tons of detail, along with very high quality sound to suck you into one of the most realistic war experiences ever created. Texture in the game is very amazing, and everything is in real time to make is very realistic, and to change the experience each time you play the game. In all there are ten long and drawn out missions, but the firefights don't become long and boring. The only real complaint I have with single player is the AI. At times it can cheat a little. For example, I was rushing a Helghast soldier who turned around and shot me in the head with a sniper before I even could reach him. The AI can also be a little stupid and wander around, or just completely aim dead wrong! THE VERDICT-I give the single player 9/10

Graphics- The game uses a deferred rendering engine to create very realistic graphics. From the blood that splatters onto the wall from each shot, to the well defined mask of the helghast soldiers, you will definitely be impressed. You can also see sand drift to and fro on certain levels, causing perfect sniper shots to be ruined. These graphics are excellent, but they are not the best ever. The problem is that you are looking at futuristic type weapons and creatures, so it can't be well described until you check out the game. Don't expect the game to look like you are actually fighting a Helghast soldier, but it definitely is not 8 bit graphics junk. THE VERDICT- I give the graphics 8/10.

Multiplayer- Here is where the controversy is going to start. For me, I think Killzone 2 could have done a lot better with the multiplayer. The biggest complaint I have against the mutiplayer is lack of originality. There are five multiplayer modes, but they all seem like Call Of Duty scams. Assassination: A player from a team is chosen to be killed. The defenders must protect him while the offensive team must kill him. Search and Retrieve: Propaganda speakers are laid out at random, and your team must gather and bring them back to your base. Capture and Hold: Your team gathers a certain points and stays there to capture them. Search and Destroy: Your team must either plant bombs or deactivate the bombs to achieve victory. Body Count: Essentially just team deathmatch where you kill the other players on the opposite team. How many times has this been done before? They may be fun, but I don't think it's worth sixty bucks for Call Of Duty based play. I am also aggravated at the so called "new" and "praised" way to play multiplayer with class based game play. This has already been successfully done in the Battlefield series by EA games. The last big complaint I have is not really with Guerllia Games, but more with Sony and its online servers. Over the coarse of playing online, I had been logged off several times, and rarely could I even find a match to join because the game is so popular! With lack of originality and offline co-op, this really bought Killzone 2 down. THE VERDICT- 7/10

THE ULTIMATE VERDICT- Killzone 2 is an excellent FPS with some great graphics and a wonderful and interesting campaign experience. The multiplayer, although the same as any FPS , is pretty fun and will keep you coming back for a limited time. The game is not a "must buy", but you should not completely pass it up. I suggest you wait for a small price drop. Overall I give the game 24/30. This is a B, and I think that is all Killzone 2 deserves. It did not raise the FPS bar by very much, but it took what other FPS games had and tweaked it. I hope you enjoyed my review and that it helped you. Get up, turn on your PS3, and Play Beyond gamers!!

Rating Score 24/30 = 8.0/10
